All of my recent work has been fired in a gas kiln to cone 10. The textures and colours you see are the result of carefully starving the kiln of oxygen, particularly at around 870 °C, which is held for one hour before a gradual climb to the final temperature of 1280 °C. Throughout the 12-hour firing, the kiln is checked and adjusted each hour to create the precise firing schedule I’m aiming for, before being left to cool slowly over 36 hours.
